Our Sunday blog was about hunting for a château, and we featured few selections from the listings from Sifex. Most of the châteaux at those price ranges would need some major restoration work be done.
Restoration work on old château requires skills and patience for it to be successful, and one that commendably stand outs as an inspiration is the project by California interior designer, Timothy Corrigan. In his new book, Invitation to Chateau du Grand-Lucé scheduled for release October 1, 2013, Monsieur Corrigan recounts how he brought an 18th-century Château du Grand-Lucé back to its palatial glory. The stories and pictures from the book would definitely be a source of inspiration, and a resource on the art of French decoration and living.
Monsieur Corrigan purchased the château in 2004, and set out to restore the house to its full French glory with his curated mix and patented juxtaposition of continental elegance and California comfort. The book will take the reader from the striking entry hall to the elegant bedrooms, as Corrigan offers indispensable decorating advice based on his experiences, including how to live in historic homes in a modern way. Indeed, Château du Grand-Lucé is a celebration of the gracious symmetry of French classical decoration and architecture amid the pastoral beauty of the French countryside of Loire Valley.
The book is available for pre-order here.
